A rare visitor has been see since Friday (16th September) at Baron’s Haugh in Motherwell. It is a Long Billed Dowicher, which is a native of the USA, and may have been blown off course with the recent storms on its migratory journey to South America.
It is a rare bird in the UK and as a result, many visitors have been going to the Haugh to catch a glimpse of the bird.
When I was there this morning, it was happily feeding with the mallard ducks and looked quite comfortable in its surroundings.
Whether the bird stays in Motherwell remains to be seen as it may have difficulty finding its way back to South America.
